Field Announced For
2004 Preseason WNIT

July 15, 2004 – The 16-team field for the 2004 Preseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament was announced today.

The field for the prestigious tournament that kicks off the women’s college basketball season includes teams that appeared in last season’s polls such as Duke, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Arizona. All games will be played on home campuses, which are determined after each round.

The tournament opens Nov. 12, with second-round games on Nov. 14, semifinals on Nov. 17, and the championship on Nov. 20 or 21.

The event features nine teams that played in the postseason for 2003-2004: Duke, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Arizona, Middle Tennessee State, Saint Joseph’s, South Florida, Rice and Nebraska.

In last year’s Preseason WNIT, Texas Tech defeated Rutgers and went on to a 25-8 season.
