CONNECTICUT CAPTURES CROWN
IN 2005 PRESEASON WNIT

November, 2005 – The University of Connecticut women's basketball team took the title of the 2005 Preseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament on Nov. 20. The Huskies defeated visiting Oklahoma 82-62 at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Conn.  It was the third Preseason WNIT title in three tries for UConn.

Tournament Most Valuable Player Mel Thomas scored 20 points for UConn, and Charde Houston poured in 22 points and was on the all-tournament team as well. Joining those two were Ashley and Courtney Paris of Oklahoma, Brooke Queenan of Boston College and Katie Montgomery of New Mexico. Courtney Paris led Oklahoma with 19 points in the championship.

Connecticut advanced to the final by defeating Marist, Indiana State and Boston College.  Oklahoma earned its spot by downing Wisconsin-Milwaukee, SMU and New Mexico.
