CHICAGO – Playing at their preferred upbeat pace and showing an accurate shooting eye throughout, DePaul was never in trouble against Southern Illinois in the opening round of the Postseason WNIT.
The Blue Demons (1-0) will host St. Bonaventure in Round 2, with tipoff set for Sunday, Nov. 15 at 5 p.m. ET. The Salukis (0-1) will play next week in the consolation round, at a site to be determined.
DePaul had a 14-point lead after one quarter and steadily built the advantage, while the Salukis had trouble controlling the ball and wound up with 23 turnovers.
Leading the way for the Blue Demons in terms of scoring was Megan Podkowa, who closed with 1`7 points and added 11 rebounds. Chanise Jenkins and Mart’e Grays each scored 16 points, and Jessica January came through with 15 points. DePaul shot a robust 56.4 percent from the field.
Southern Illinois got 15 points from Rishonda Napier; Cartaesha added 11 points, four rebounds and seven assists, and Kim Nebo contributed six points and eight rebounds.
