Hattiesburg, Miss – The Little Rock women’s basketball team outscores Southern Miss 24-10 in the 4th quarter and advances to Round Two of the Postseason WNIT with a 72-62 victory. The Trojans (25-8) will face the winner of Mercer/Alabama, which is slated for Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
Four Little Rock players scored in double figures with Kaitlyn Pratt leading the way, netting 18 points and pulling down eight boards. Kira Shepard finished with 14 points and dished out five assists; teammate Monique Townson scored 11 points and had a game-high nine assists. The Trojans finished the game with 20 assists.
Brittany Dinkins led all scorers with 19 points, pulled down five rebounds and five assists for the Lady Eagles. Keri Jewett-Giles contributed 16 points.
Southern Miss led at halftime 35-33 and took a 52-48 lead heading into the 4th quarter. But stifling defense by the Trojans and a 16-5 run in the final 6:34 sealed the win for Little Rock.
The Trojans are making their 5th all-time appearance in the Postseason WNIT and are in the tournament for the second consecutive year. The win tonight gives Little Rock its first-ever victory in Postseason WNIT play.
Both teams faced off during the 2008 WNIT. Southern Miss came out on top 67-57 and reached the round of 16 during that year's tournament. The Lady Eagles finish the season 23-11.
