BLOOMINGTON, IN – Indiana launched its 2015-16 season with torrid offense and lock-down defense, taking a huge lead early against Tennessee State and rolling to a victory in the first round of the Preseason WNIT.
The Hoosiers (1-0) advance to a Round 2 matchup and will host Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. ET against Chattanooga or McNeese State; the Lady Tigers (0-1) will play in the consolation round later next week. Indiana’s largest lead was 45 points (64-19), with immediate foul trouble putting Tennessee State in a hole. The Lady Tigers only had 14 points at halftime, shooting just 16 percent from the field and suffering 14 turnovers.
Sophomore guard Tyra Buss had 21 points, eight assists and six steals for Indiana; junior college transfer Tyshee Towner scored 18 points in her first game for the Hoosiers, and Amanda Cahill rang up 17 points and eight rebounds.
Senior guard Brianna Lawrence scored 22 points and added seven rebounds and four steals for Tennessee State; sophomore guard Michelle Cox scored 11 points, but she and fellow starting guard I’Mani Davis were slowed by the early foul trouble.
