Kentucky nips Middle Tennessee in overtime; South Carolina, Florida Gulf Coast also win |

Friday, March 21, 2008 – Kentucky held on for a 68-66 overtime victory against Middle Tennessee in the second round of the Postseason WNIT.
Kentucky (16-15) moves on to play the winner of the Indiana-James Madison game, which is at 7 p.m. ET Saturday night. Kentucky will host that game either Wednesday or Thursday, and that decision will be made later.
Middle Tennessee (22-12), which led by nine points in the first half and hit a critical shot late in the second to send the game into overtime, was led by Amber Holt, who scored 32 points.
In first round games Friday, South Carolina let loose for a 102-74 victory over North Carolina A&T.
Freshman Jordan Jones of South Carolina (16-15) set a WNIT record with nine 3-pointers in the game. That is one better than the previous mark set in 2005 by Missouri State’s Jenny Lingor.
South Carolina moves on to play at 7 p.m. ET Monday at NC State in the second round.
In the other first-round game Friday, Florida Gulf Coast earned its first Division I postseason victory by holding on for a 67-65 win over South Florida.
FGCU (22-8), which finished second in the Atlantic Sun in its first year as a Division I program, now travels to play at 7 p.m. ET Monday against Florida. |
