NC State rallies over South Carolina;
9 other games played in second round |

Monday, March 24, 2008 – NC State overcame a 14-point halftime deficit to claim a stake Monday in the quarterfinal round of the Postseason WNIT.
NC State (19-12), playing its first game since the ACC conference tournament – an 18-day layoff – defeated South Carolina (16-16) 72-69. NC State will play at home in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. ET Thursday against Florida. Florida (19-13) held off Florida Gulf Coast (22-9) 60-55 to advance to play at NC State.
In other second-round games Monday, Boston College (21-11) beat Vermont (24-9) 76-64; St. John’s (17-14) edged Iona (20-14) 65-59; and Boston College will travel to St. John’s for a 7 p.m. ET game Thursday night.
Michigan (18-13) ended the best season in program history for VCU (26-8) with a 75-57 victory. The win gives Michigan, playing in its first postseason tournament in six years, a home game against Southern Mississippi. Southern Miss (21-13) hung with Mississippi State long enough to edge out a 62-61 home win over the Lady Bulldogs (16-15).
Marquette (17-14) needed overtime to beat visiting Creighton (21-12) 75-69. Marquette now hosts Illinois at 7 p.m. CT Wednesday. Illinois, in its first game since advancing to the Big Ten title game against Purdue, edged visiting Drake (23-11) 48-44.
Kansas (17-15) moved into the quarterfinals with an 82-60 decision over Evansville (21-12). Kansas will play at 7 p.m. ET Thursday at Michigan State.
In the final game of the night, Colorado (17-14) defeated Gonzaga (25-9) 82-68. The Buffaloes made the most of their first postseason appearance in four years, and next will host Villanova at 7 p.m. MT Thursday. |
