TCU, Kentucky, Marquette advance
to Postseason WNIT quarterfinal round
 
Wednesday, March 26, 2008 – TCU finally beat Texas Tech, and they did it at just the right time.

TCU, which hadn’t won a game against Texas Tech in 37 tries, defeated the Lady Raiders 81-74 in the third round of the Postseason WNIT.

TCU (23-11) broke open a tight game with a 10-2 run late in the second half to stun Texas Tech (17-16). TCU now awaits Thursday’s game between Colorado and Villanova to see who, when and where it will play the quarterfinal round.

Also Wednesday, Kentucky made a run midway through the second half to edge visiting James Madison 84-76 in a third round game.

Kentucky’s Samantha Mahoney led all scorers with 30 points to help the Wildcats advance to the quarterfinals of the WNIT. Kentucky is now 12-3 in Postseason WNIT games.

James Madison (24-10) was led by Colonial Player of the Year Tamera Young, who had 28 points, 17 rebounds and five assists.

The Illinois-Marquette game on Wednesday also featured some significant runs: Illinois closed the first half with a 14-0 run to go up 36-31 at halftime, but Marquette answered with a double-digit run of its own immediately in the second half, and went on to claim a 72-64 victory.

Illinois finishes its season with a 20-15 record. Marquette (18-14) will travel to Kentucky (17-15) for a 2 p.m. ET quarterfinal game Sunday.
