Michigan State, Michigan to meet; NC State, St. John’s, Colorado advance |

Thursday, March 27, 2008 – Michigan and Michigan State set up an all-Big Ten quarterfinal with wins Thursday in the third round of the Postseason WNIT.
Michigan State (21-13) edged visiting Kansas 58-54. Allyssa DeHaan scored 16 points and added seven rebounds and four blocks for Michigan State. For Kansas (17-16), Danielle McCray had 18 points, nine rebounds, and eight steals.
Michigan State moved into the field of eight teams remaining in the WNIT, and will host Michigan at 2 p.m. ET Sunday. The in-state rivals split their two games during the regular season, with each team winning on its home court.
Michigan (19-13) held strong with Southern Miss (21-14), defeating the Golden Eagles 59-45.
Another quarterfinal matchup will feature St. John’s and NC State. St. John’s (18-14) defeated Boston College (21-12) 65-56; and NC State (20-12) ended Florida’s (19-14) season with an 80-55 victory.
St. John’s will travel to Boston College for a 2 p.m. ET game Sunday.
In Thursday’s late matchup, Colorado (18-14) trailed nearly the entire game before coming back to clip visiting Villanova (17-16) 64-58. Colorado’s Brittany Spears went on a personal 8-0 run, and Jackie McFarland (32 points, 12 rebounds) put the Buffaloes ahead 59-58 with a three-point play with 1:22 remaining in the game. Colorado finished the game with a 16-1 run.
The victory propels Colorado into the quarterfinals against TCU, which recorded its first victory over Texas Tech in 38 tries on Wednesday night. TCU will travel to play at Colorado at 4 p.m. ET Sunday. |
