| Preseason WNIT kicks off in one week |

November 1, 2007 – Maryland and LSU headline an all-new Preseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament, which kicks off the women’s college basketball season Friday, Nov. 9.
Maryland, ranked No. 4 in the ESPN/USA Today preseason poll, and LSU, ranked No. 5, lead a 16-team bracket in the WNIT. For the first time in its 14-year history, the WNIT will feature a three-game guaranteed format.
All 16 teams begin play Nov. 9. Second-round games will be played Nov. 11-13; semifinals Nov. 14-16; consolation games Nov. 16-17; and the championship is set for Sunday, Nov. 18. All games are played on home campuses, which are determined after the previous round.
The Preseason WNIT field includes nine teams that played in the postseason last season, highlighted by LSU’s Final Four finish. Delaware, Delaware State, LSU, Maryland, Michigan State, Notre Dame and TCU played in the NCAA Tournament, and East Tennessee State and Western Kentucky advanced to the Postseason WNIT field. They will be joined by Evansville, IUPUI, Marshall, Miami (Ohio), Princeton, Radford, and Samford in this fall’s Preseason WNIT.
Nine teams will play in the Preseason WNIT for the first time in their school history: Delaware State, ETSU, IUPUI, LSU, Marshall, Michigan State, Princeton, Radford and Samford.
In last year’s Preseason WNIT, Purdue defeated Baylor and went on to a 31-6 season, advancing to the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight round.
