Friday, Nov. 9, 2007 – Women’s college basketball kicks off today, and 16 teams will try for their first win of the season in the Preseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament.
The prestigious event features four teams ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 poll: 2006 National Champion Maryland (4); 2007 Final Four team LSU (5); Michigan State (17); and Notre Dame (24). TCU and Western Kentucky, which both received votes, also are playing.
Those six teams, along with Delaware and Evansville, will each host first-round games tonight in the Preseason WNIT. The winners advance to second-round games to be played Sunday, Monday or Tuesday, and the losers will play Nov. 16-17 in consolation games. For the first time in the WNIT’s 14-year history, all teams are guaranteed to play three games, with the championship teams playing four.
