November 22, 2008 – Middle Tennessee’s women’s basketball team staged a 20-point comeback to notch a 65-59 victory over visiting Indiana on Saturday night in a consolation game of the Preseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament.
Chelsia Lymon (19 points) and Anne Marie Lanning (18) led Middle Tennessee (2-1). Indiana (1-2) had four players in double figures.
In another WNIT consolation game Saturday, Illinois State defeated Robert Morris 94-82 in a game that featured 22 3-pointers. Robert Morris set a new Preseason WNIT record with 13 3s, beating Connecticut’s mark of 12 set in 2001. Monet Johnson was responsible for eight of Robert Morris’s 3s, which tied her for the individual mark in a game, also held by Jackie Stiles of Missouri State, set in 1998.
Both Illinois State and Robert Morris are picked to win their respective conferences this season.
In other games, Ball State edged Cleveland State 61-60 and had Audrey McDonald set a Preseason WNIT record with 13 3-pointers made in the tournament; Western Carolina defeated Liberty 73-53; and UC Riverside downed Lafayette 54-41.
