Louisiana Tech defeats Purdue 68-63
in 2000 Preseason WNIT Championship
 
November 20, 2000; West Lafayette, Ind. - Louisiana Tech beat the odds and Purdue Monday night, overcoming the Boilermakers 68-63 to win the 2000 Preseason Women's NIT championship.

La Tech, ranked No. 11 in the nation, edged No. 4 Purdue on its home court.

In the consolation game earlier in the evening at Purdue, Texas and No. 13 Virginia battled into double overtime before Texas emerged with a 56-55 victory.

La Tech's Ayana Walker led her team in scoring and rebounding all four games of the tournament, and was named MVP.

Brooke Lassiter of La Tech also made the all-tournament team, as did Camille Cooper and Katie Douglas of Purdue; Schuye LaRue of Virginia, and Texas' Stacy Stephens.
