Ames, IA – Iowa State used a 7-0 run right before halftme to build a 10-point lead, then sealed the deal with a strong defensive effort in the last 20 minutes to take down No. 24 Miami, 75-52, to claim the 2018 Preseason WNIT championship in its first time playing in the event. The Cyclones (4-0) got 15 points and seven rebounds from Bridget Carleton, who was voted the tournament MVP. Ines Nezerwa added 15 points and six rebounds; Kristin Scott chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds as the Cyclones held the Hurricanes (4-1) to 31 percent shooting, including just 2-of-20 from 3-point range. Miami got 14 points and nine rebounds from Emese Hof. Beatrice Mompremier added eight rebounds. The Bulldogs (2-2) led by seven, 37-30, at the halfway mark but a 21-5 run from Stephen F. Austin allowed the Lady Jacks to surge ahead by the end of the third quarter. Roxy Barahman nailed several jumpers down the stretch, pulling Yale within four with a little over a minute to play. It was Stephen F. Austin’s ability to knock down clutch free throws, hitting 6-8 from the charity stripe in the closing minute that sealed the win. San Marcos, TX – In a game where no team led by more than eight points, Texas State managed to outlast Nicholls State, 72-67, in Preseason WNIT consolation play on Friday evening. Ahead by just two points with 1:30 left in the contest, Brooke Holle nailed a three-pointer to give the Bobcats (1-1) a margin of five. One possession later, Kennedy Taylor came up with a huge steal and free throws ultimately sealed the win for the home side. The Colonels (0-3) will get one more matchup against Delaware (0-2) while Texas State will face Montana State (3-1). Both games are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17 in San Marcos, TX. Toshua Leavitt dialed up a team-high 20 points in the victory. The senior also became in the moved into second place for most made three-pointers in Sun Belt history. Brooke Holle added 17 points and Jayla Johnson scored 12 for the Bobcats. Nicholls State got everything the could have asked for out of senior Cassidy Barrios. Barrios poured in a game-high 25 points, shot 9-18 from the field and was a perfect 4-4 at the free throw line. STEPHEN F. AUSTIN 69, MORGAN STATE 42

The Ladyjacks (1-1) will face Yale (2-1) on Saturday, with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. ET. Morgan State (1-3) takes on Niagara (0-4) at 3 p.m. ET; both games will be played on the SFA campus. Both teams struggled to convert from 3-point range; SFA was 7-for-29, and the Lady Bears were 2-of-14. The Ladyjacks ended up with 11 players scoring on the night; Marissa Banfield had 11 points and Imani Johnson added nine points and five rebounds. Adre’onia Coleman led Morgan State with 21 points and 10 rebounds. The Lady Bears only had four other players score and were hampered by 28 turnovers. MONTANA STATE 69, DELAWARE 60
San Marcos, TX – After losing to Marquette in the opening round of the 2018 Preseason WNIT, Montana State righted the ship with a 69-60 victory over Delaware in consolation play Friday evening. The Bobcats (2-1) will await the winner of host school Texas State and Nicholls State while the Blue Hens (0-2) will face the loser of the matchup. Both games are slated for Saturday, Nov. 17 and will be played on the campus of Texas State in San Marcos, TX. Senior Claire Lundberg led the way for Montana State, scoring 28 points and collecting six rebounds. Martha Kuderer (17 points) and Oliana Squires (13 points) also ended in double figures for the Bobcats. Despite 20 points from Samone DeFreese and 18 points off the bench, Delaware couldn’t overcome its 20 turnovers and shot just 2-11 from three-point distance. MIAMI 63, MARQUETTE 55
Miami, FL -- Miami's 16-point second half lead shrunk to one point thanks to a furious Marquette rally, but the No. 25 Hurricanes scored four late points to slip by the 19th-ranked Golden Eagles and advance to the Preseason WNIT championship game. The Hurricanes (4-0) will take on host Iowa State in the title matchup, set for 4:30 p.m. ET Sunday, Nov. 18 and televised on CBS Sports Network. Career-high totals of 24 points and 21 rebounds (the latter number set a single-game record for the Preseason WNIT) from Baylor transfer Beatrice Mompremier helped preserve Miami's tournament run as the Hurricanes had 19 turnovers. After Marquette closed to 56-55, both teams went on a long scoring drought that was broken on a putback from Mompremier, which made it 58-55 with 53 seconds to go. Miami got some insurance at :41, when Laura Cornelius stole the ball and sank two free throws to make it 60-55. The Hurricanes also got 10 points and 10 rebounds from Emese Hof, and Cornelius closed with 10 points. Miami had a 56-41 rebounding edge and held Marquette (3-1) to 29 percent shooting from the field. The Golden Eagles were paced by Erika Davenport's 15 points and seven rebounds. Danielle King had 10 points and four steals. Baskets by Amani Wilborn and Allazia Blockton pulled Marquette to a 56-55 deficit, but those were the final points for the visitors the rest of the way. Ames, IA -- Iowa State senior and all-Big 12 first teamer Bridget Carleton missed two free throws with the score tied and 33 seconds to go against Auburn, but she converted a layup with nine seconds left and blocked a shot at :02 to send the Cyclones into the 2018 Preseason WNIT championship game. Iowa State (3-0) will host Miami or Marquette in the title game, set for 4:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 18 (televised on CBS Sports Network). The Cyclones looked to have the upper hand after an 8-0 run (including two jumpers from Alexa Middleton) pushed them ahead of the Tigers (3-1) by a 64-54 margin with 2:21 left. However, Auburn's Janiah McKay hit three 3-pointer in just over 45 seconds, and her last one tied the score at 64-all with 41 seconds to go. Carleton missed her free throws; McKay was whistled for an offensive foul at :13, and Carleton made her game-winner. On a night where Iowa State missed its first nine 3-pointers and seemed to be playing uphill, freshman Ashley Joens breathed fresh life into the Cyclones with three fourth-quarter bombs. Joens finished with 18 points, and Carleton closed with 15 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists. Miami, FL – No. 25 Miami displayed a sharp shooting eye to build a big lead against Stephen F. Austin and blended that with sturdy defense to move into Round 2 of the 2018 Preseason WNIT. The Hurricanes (2-0) will face Hartford on Sunday; the Ladyjacks (0-1) move into the consolation round. Miami shot 56 percent overall and converted 12 3-pointers, all coming in the first three quarters. Sophomore guard Mykea Gray had 25 points, two off her career high, and junior guard Laura Cornelius closed with nine points and eight assists. Baylor transfer Beatrice Mompremier added 14 points in her first game with the Hurricanes. Stephen F. Austin was paced by Chanell Hayes, who had 19 points. Heaven Hamling closed with 15 points. The Ladyjacks tied the game early in the second quarter on a 3-pointer by Brioenne Burns to make it 22-all, but the Hurricanes quickly responded and pulled ahead by a 43-30 margin at halftime. Miami was 9-of-16 from 3-point range in the half and forced 11 turnovers in that span. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Gray late in the third quarter built the Miami advantage to 60-37. IOWA STATE 95, NIAGARA 35 Ames, IA – Iowa State burst its way to a 23-point lead after one quarter and kept Niagara at a comfortable distance the rest of the way in Round 1 of the 2018 Preseason WNIT. The Cyclones (1-0) will host Northern Illinois in Round 2; that game is set for Sunday at 3 p.m. ET. The Purple Eagles (0-2) move into the consolation round. Freshman guard Ashley Joens launched her highly anticipated ISU career with 16 points. All Big-12 senior Bridget Carleton closed with 14 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists, and Inez Nezerwa added 14 points. Iowa State shot 54 percent from the field (all 12 players in uniform scored) and had a 46-31 edge in rebounding. Iowa State claimed a 27-4 lead after the first 10 minutes, which was capped by a 3-pointer from Adriana Camber at the buzzer. The Cyclones then enjoyed an 11-1 run over the final 5:37 of the second quarter to take a 49-12 halftime lead. Jai Moore had 12 points for Niagara, and Maggie McIntyre added 11 points. AUBURN 80, NICHOLLS STATE 59 Auburn, AL – Auburn showed a steady hand offensively to build a big lead against Nicholls State through three quarters, and the Tigers were never threatened the rest of the way in their Round 1 victory in the 2018 Preseason WNIT. Auburn (2-0) will face New Mexico in Round 2; the Colonels (0-2) will play in the consolation round. The Tigers had a 21-point lead (64-43) after 30 minutes on 53 percent shooting. While the 3-pointers were not falling on the night (4-of-18 overall), Auburn did exert its will underneath with a 42-28 edge in rebounding. Daisa Alexander closed with 20 points for Auburn; Emari Jones had 15 points and eight rebounds, while Janiah McKay added 14 points and seven assists. The Tigers’ defense forced 24 turnovers.
