TEXAS STATE 72, NICHOLLS STATE 67
San Marcos, TX – In a game where no team led by more than eight points, Texas State managed to outlast Nicholls State, 72-67, in Preseason WNIT consolation play on Friday evening.
Ahead by just two points with 1:30 left in the contest, Brooke Holle nailed a three-pointer to give the Bobcats (1-1) a margin of five. One possession later, Kennedy Taylor came up with a huge steal and free throws ultimately sealed the win for the home side.
The Colonels (0-3) will get one more matchup against Delaware (0-2) while Texas State will face Montana State (3-1). Both games are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17 in San Marcos, TX.
Toshua Leavitt dialed up a team-high 20 points in the victory. The senior also became in the moved into second place for most made three-pointers in Sun Belt history. Brooke Holle added 17 points and Jayla Johnson scored 12 for the Bobcats.
Nicholls State got everything the could have asked for out of senior Cassidy Barrios. Barrios poured in a game-high 25 points, shot 9-18 from the field and was a perfect 4-4 at the free throw line.
