TOLEDO 72, WRIGHT STATE 64
Toledo, OH – Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott scored 19 points for Toledo, which held off a rally by Wright State and made it into Round 2.
Brenae Harris had a triple-double (16 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds) for Toledo (19-13). The Rockets took 31 3-point shots. Wright State (25-9) got 18 points and five assists from Tay'ler Mingo.
Toledo will host Michigan in Round Two on Monday, March 23 with tip set for 7 p.m. ET.
VILLANOVA 71, MAINE 60
Villanova, PA – Torrid shooting from 3-point range put Villanova up early against Maine, allowing the Wildcats to ease into Round 2.
Villanova (20-13) made seven 3’s in the first half and had a 23-point advantage at one point; Alex Louin had five 3-pointers and closed with 17 points, while Lauren Burford was 5-for-5 from long range to finish with 15 points. Sigi Koizar scored 22 points for the Black Bears (23-9), and Mikaela Gustafsson added 17 points.
Villanova will host Old Dominion in Round Two on Sunday, March 22 at 2 p.m. ET.
RICHMOND 67, STETSON 66
Deland, FL – Richmond came back from a five-point deficit with about four minutes to go against Stetson, with Lauren Tolson hitting a shot with 90 seconds remaining to finish the comeback. The Spiders (19-13) move into Round 2, where they will play at Duquesne on Tuesday, March 24 at 7 p.m. ET.
Tolson had 18 points and six rebounds for Richmond; Genevieve Okoro and Janelle Hubbard each added 17 points. The Hatters (23-8) got 20 points and six rebounds from Brianti Saunders. Myeisha Hall scored 18 points.
TULSA 78, MISSOURI STATE 72
Springfield, MO – Tulsa got 22 points from Kelsee Grovey and another 22 points from Ashley Clark, coming back from a late deficit to fend off Missouri State and advance to Round 2. The Golden Hurricane (18-13) will host Eastern Michigan on Sunday, March 22, with a 6 p.m. ET tipoff.
Missouri State (18-15) had a 64-61 lead with 4:16 to go after a 3-pointer from Lexi Hughes. Clark had a conventional 3-point play with 1 minute to go to put Tulsa up, 73-68. Tyonna Snow had 29 points for the Lady Bears.
EASTERN MICHIGAN 80, DRAKE 70
Des Moines, IA – Eastern Michigan saw its 11-point lead in the second half whittled back to two points, but a cluster of free throws in the final minutes guided the Eagles into Round 2, where they will play at Tulsa on Sunday, March 22, with a 6 p.m. ET tipoff.
Cha Sweeney had 28 points, five rebounds and five assists for Eastern Michigan (23-12). Janay Morton added 15 points. Drake (20-11) got 19 points and five assists from Lizzy Wendell; Caitlin Ingle added 17 points and seven rebounds.
SAINT MARY’S 92, HAWAII 88 (OT)
Moraga, CA – Saint Mary’s coughed up an 18-point second-half lead, but the Gaels hit just enough of their late free throws in overtime to seal the victory against Hawaii.
Saint Mary’s (21-10) forced 22 turnovers and hit 38 free throws; leading scorer for the Gaels was Shannon Mauldin, with 32 points. Lauren Nicholson added 23 points.
Hawaii (23-9) got its first lead of the contest during overtime. Briana Harris had 24 points and six rebounds, while Shawna-Lei Kuehu added 19 points and seven assists.
Saint Mary's will host Fresno State in Round Two of the WNIT on Monday, March 23 at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT.
