UCLA 70, CSU BAKERSFIELD 54
Los Angeles, CA – UCLA stumbled through 24 turnovers but forced 20 as well, keeping CSU Bakersfield at arm’s length in the second half to move to 14-18 on the season. The Bruins will face San Diego in Round 2.
Nirra Fields had 26 points and 11 rebounds for UCLA; Lajahna Drummer added 11 points and 11 rebounds. CSU Bakersfield (23-9) was paced by Tyonna Outland, who had 28 points, six rebounds and six steals. UCLA also controlled the game underneath the rim, holding a 56-34 advantage in rebounding.
UCLA will travel to play San Diego in Round Two on Sunday, March 22 at 5 p.m. ET.
SACRAMENTO STATE 87, PACIFIC 79
Stockton, CA – Sacramento State forced 22 turnovers Thursday and built a comfortable lead early in the second half to ease by Pacific and move to 17-15 on the season. The Hornets will face Eastern Washington in Round 2.
Adella Randle-El had 20 points and five steals for Sacramento State. Kendall Kenyon had one of the most impressive nights of anyone in Round 1, registering 28 points and 21 rebounds for Pacific (21-10).
Sacramento State will host Eastern Washington in Round Two of the WNIT on Monday, March 23 at 10 p.m. ET.
FRESNO STATE 79, SAN FRANCISCO 73
Fresno, CA – In a game that was tightly contested throughout, Fresno State scored its final 15 points all on free throws, which was enough to fend off some late 3-pointers by San Francisco. Fresno State (23-9) advance to Round 2 and will face Saint Mary’s or Hawaii.
Alex Furr had 18 points for the Bulldogs; Toni Smith added 16 points and eight rebounds. Fresno State was 25-of-35 from the free-throw line overall. San Francisco (19-14) got 21points from Taj Winston, as well as 16 points and six rebounds from Michaela Rakova.
Fresno State will play the winner of Hawaii/Saint Mary's. Game details TBD.
