BLOOMINGTON, IN – Indiana outscored UC Davis by eight points in the first quarter, then used an 8-0 run at the start of the second quarter to seize control, storming by the Aggies and into the semifinals of the 2018 Postseason WNIT.
The Hoosiers (21-14) will take on South Dakota or TCU in one semifinal.
Tyra Buss topped 2,300 career points, ringing up 30 points to go with seven rebounds, four steals and five assists for the Hoosiers. Senior forward Amanda Cahill, who averages 15 points per game but was held to just seven in Indiana’s Round 3 victory versus Purdue, torched UC Davis with 24 points, 10 rebounds and five steals. Cahill scored 18 points in the first half.
Bendu Yeaney added 12 points for Indiana, which welcomed an announced crowd of 6,001 to Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers closed with a 44-28 edge in rebounding and forced 16 turnovers.
UC Davis (28-7), which won road games at tough settings such as Wyoming and Kansas State in the WNIT, pushed back in the third quarter with a 7-0 run, holding Indiana scoreless for the opening 3:31 of the frame. The Aggies got it as close as 55-46 with 3:05 left in the third quarter.
Morgan Bertsch had 13 points for the Aggies; Dani Nafekh closed with 12 points, and Rachel Nagel added 14 points. Pele Gianotti also hit double figures with 11 points.
