Quarterfinal Recaps -- March 25, 2018

3/25/2018

VIRGINIA TECH 74, ALABAMA 67

BLACKSBURG, VA – Virginia Tech held Alabama to just 10 points in the third quarter, which was enough of an edge to give the Hokies breathing room in the final 10 minutes and send them into the semifinals of the 2018 Postseason WNIT.

The Hokies (22-13) will play at West Virginia in one semifinal; tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 28..

Taylor Emery scored 19 points for VT, with Aisha Sheppard and Rachel Camp each adding 17 points. Regan Magarity closed with 12 points and 10 rebounds – the Hokies held Alabama scoreless for the opening 3:39 of the fourth quarter, allowing them to push out to a 13-point lead.

Alabama (20-14) went scoreless for the first 2:35 of the game, but resolutely fought back and took a one-point lead at halftime, 37-36, on a 3-pointer from Meoshonti Knight, who hit the game-winner Thursday in Round 3 against Georgia Tech.

Jasmine Walker came off the bench to score 16 points for the Crimson Tide, which got as close as 68-60 with 1:24 to go in the game on a 3-pointer from Hannah Cook. Virginia Tech hit its free throws late to seal the deal, going 20-for-25 from the line overall.
