VIRGINIA TECH 56, NAVY 55
BLACKSBURG, VA – Taylor Emery hits clutch late-game shots as Virginia Tech survives in Round One of the WNIT with a 56-55 win over Navy.
The Hokies (19-13) trailed for most of the game but used a 10-0 run midway through the 4th quarter to take a 49-46 lead with 4:50 remaining.
However, the Midshipmen would not go away, going on their own 7-0 run to take a 53-49 lead with 2:38 on the clock.
With Virginia Tech trailing 54-51 with 11 seconds to go, Emery hit a three-pointer to tie the game 54-54.
Navy would hit one of two free throws for a 55-54 lead before Emery hit a buzzer-beating jumper giving the Hokies the win.
The Mids and Hokies faced off in Round Two of last year’s Postseason WNIT with Tech posting a 75-64 win over Navy in that game.
Virginia Tech will host George Mason in Round Two of the WNIT on Sunday, March 18 at 2 p.m. ET.
