LIBERTY 63, OLD DOMINION 55
Norfolk, VA - An 11-0 run to end the first quarter gave Liberty the cushion it needed on the road in Norfolk. Old Dominion closed the gap near the end of the 2017 Preseason WNIT’s first contest but the Lady Flames proved victorious, 63-55.
Liberty's Iva Ilic drained a career-high five three-pointers and tallied a game-high 15 points. KK Barbour was everywhere on the floor for head coach Carey Green. The 6’1” junior from Charlottesville scored five points, gobbled up a team-high eight rebounds and dished out two assists.
Old Dominion didn’t go down without a fight, however. Mid-way through the third quarter, the Lady Monarchs put together a 10-0 run to climb within single digits of the Lady Flames. Despite Odegua Oigbokie’s 14 points, free-throw woes and the early deficit were too much to overcome.
The Lady Monarchs will play in the Consolation Rounds which are set for November 17-18. Details on the Consolation Bracket will be announced Saturday, November 11.
Liberty will move on to Round Two, facing the winner of Michigan and George Mason. Time and location will be announced following the conclusion of the clash between the Wolverines and the Patriots.
