NEW MEXICO 93, RICE 73
Albuquerque, N.M. – New Mexico (25-10) relied on its high-powered offense once again in the second round of the WNIT. Facing Rice (23-10), the Lobos eased its way into Round 3 with a 93-73 win over the Owls.
Erica Ogwumike dialed up a career high 31 points plus 10 rebounds, which gave the transfer from Pepperdine her 15th double-double of the season. Despite Ogwumike’s success, the Owls couldn’t overcome 22 turnovers on the night.
The Lobos have already set a program record for three-pointers this season. New Mexico only drained seven shots from downtown but dominated the painted area all night long, outscoring Rice 48-30.
Four players ended in double figures for the Lobos. Madi Washington had 11, Tesha Buck scored 18, Cherise Beynon poured in 20 and Jaisa Nunn was a remarkable 11-15 from the field for 28 points.
New Mexico will host TCU in the next round in a game to be played on Thursday, March 22 at 9 p.m. ET.
