MICHIGAN 74, LIBERTY 50
Ann Arbor, MI – Using the same formula that guided the team to the Postseason WNIT title last season, Michigan rumbled past Liberty on Sunday to advance to Round 3 of the 2017 Preseason WNIT.
The Wolverines (2-0) will play either Louisville or Toledo in the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 16; the Cardinals and the Rockets play on Tuesday.
Katelynn Flaherty (20 points, five assists, 10-of-10 from the free-throw line) and Hallie Thome (16 points), both seniors who keyed the Wolverines all last season, helped Michigan build an early advantage and take a 46-26 lead into halftime. Nicole Munger hit three 3-pointers and closed with 13 points, and Hailey Brown added 10 points.
Michigan shot 49 percent from the field, forced 21 turnovers and closed with a 21-6 advantage in made free throws.
Liberty (1-1) will learn its consolation round opponent at the conclusion of Round 2 on Tuesday. The Flames were paced by Keyen Green, who had 12 points and eight rebounds.
