JAMES MADISON 62, RADFORD 35
HARRISONBURG, VA. – In a rematch of the 2017 WNIT First-Round matchup, James Madison (23-10) outmuscled Radford (24-9) for the second time in as many years to earn its way into Round 3 with a 62-35 victory.
Starting the game on a 13-0 run, the Dukes never looked back. At the end of the first quarter, the stout JMU defense had held the Highlanders to just 1-13 shooting and only five points.
Big South coach of the year Mike McGuire got a lift from Janayla White, who poured in 11 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
The three-headed monster of Kamiah Smalls (17 points and six rebounds), Lexie Barrier (19 points and four rebounds) and Kelly Koshuta (16 points and six rebounds) provided problems for Radford all evening long.
As a team, JMU out-rebounded Radford 49-26, capitalized on 19 second-chance points and came up with nine steals to secure the win.
The Dukes will await the winner of West Virginia and Saint Joseph’s.
