VERMILLION, SD – South Dakota hit eight 3-pointers in the first half, opening up an 18-point lead at the break, and held on from there, topping Colorado State in Round 2 of the 2018 Postseason WNIT. The victory earns South Dakota a home game in Round 3 (against Michigan State or Toledo), set for 8 p.m. ET on March 22.
The Coyotes (28-6), who won the 2016 Postseason WNIT, will face Michigan State or Toledo in Round 3. The game marked the return of CSU head coach Ryun Williams to the USD campus – he ran the program at South Dakota from 2008-12.
Colorado State (21-12) rallied in the third quarter, cutting the lead to 45-40 on a layup from Hannah Tvrdy with 5:14 left in the frame. The Coyotes responded with an 10-0 run, as the Rams did not score another point in the rest of the quarter, and South Dakota ended any lingering drama by scoring the first eight points of the fourth quarter.
Ciara Duffy had 19 points and eight rebounds for South Dakota; Jaycee Bradley added 15 points, and Allison Arens finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. The Coyotes had just five turnovers and held a 39-26 edge in rebounds.
CSU got 21 points from Tvrdy.
