WASHINGTON, DC – Duquesne scored the first 14 points of the second quarter against Georgetown and sank seven 3-pointers in the first half, but needed to preserve a small lead in the final minutes as the Dukes advanced to Round 3 of the 2018 Postseason WNIT.
The Dukes (25-7), who also had wins this season against George Washington and George Mason, took a 65-60 lead with 4:22 to go on a 3-pointer from Kadri-Ann Lass. A basket from Dionna White pulled the Hoyas (16-16) to 67-64; a layup from Chassidy Omogrosso made it 69-64 with 47 seconds to go, and White closed the scoring with two late free throws. The Dukes will play at St. John’s in Round 3, with tipoff set for 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, March 22.
Omogrosso had 22 points and five assists for Duquesne, and Julijana Vojinovic added 19 points.
Georgetown, which reached the Big East tournament semifinals for the first time in 19 seasons, got 33 points and 11 rebounds from White. Cynthia Petke added 24 points and 10 rebounds.
