EAST LANSING, MI – Michigan State, which is playing in the Postseason WNIT for the first time in 10 years, got three huge baskets from Shay Colley in the final minutes of the game, the last a layup with 2 seconds left to push the Spartans past Toledo in Round 2.
Tanaya Beacham’s converted a shot to tie the game at 66-all for Toledo with 9 seconds remaining, on a play that followed a MSU turnover. After a timeout, Colley got the ball and made the winning drive to the rim – she had also made the go-ahead shot at the 2:33 mark and another critical shot with 18 seconds left.
Michigan State (19-13) will play at South Dakota in Round 3 – that game is set for 8 p.m. ET on Thursday, March 22. Sidney Cooks had 15 points, and Colley added 14 points.
Kaayla McIntyre had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Toledo (18-15); Beacham closed with 12 points and nine rebounds.
