WASHINGTON STATE 68, WYOMING 67 (OT)
LARAMIE, WY – Pinelopi Pavlopoulou hit a jumpshot with 3:08 left in overtime, and Kayla Washington converted two free throws at the 2:08 mark, which was enough production to secure a win against host Wyoming.
The Cougars (14-19) advance to Round 3 and will play either Colorado State or UC Davis.
Pavlopoulou tied the game for the Cougars late in the fourth quarter, converting a jumper with 22 seconds to go to make it 64-all. She closed with 20 points, and Caila Hailey added 12 points and eight rebounds.
Natalie Baker had 18 points and six rebounds for the Cowgirls (22-10), who were outrebounded by a 50-34 margin.
IOWA 78, SOUTH DAKOTA 73
IOWA CITY, IA – Megan Gustafson poured in 33 points to go with 13 rebounds and hit a key shot with 25 seconds to go as the Hawkeyes escaped South Dakota to move to Round 3.
Iowa (19-13) will face Colorado or South Dakota State in the next round.
Aly Disterhoft hit a jumper with 2:41 left to put Iowa up, 72-65, but the Coyotes (who won the 2016 Postseason WNIT) cut it to 72-70 on a 3-pointer from Ciara Duffy with 1:09 remaining. Gustafson, who was 15-of-16 from the field, then hit her shot as the Hawkeyes worked the clock to the final buzzer.
Hannah Stewart added 11 points for Iowa, and Disterhoft had 10 points.
Allison Arens finished with 24 points and six rebounds for the Coyotes (23-9). Jaycee Bradley closed with 17 points, with Duffy adding 14 points.
MICHIGAN 71, WRIGHT STATE 66
ANN ARBOR, MI – Michigan, which had a 13-point lead at halftime, saw Wright State come all the way back and go ahead, but Jillian Dunston and Hallie Thome each hit key shots in the final stretch to send the Wolverines into Round 3.
The Wolverines (24-9) will face St. John’s or Harvard in the next round.
Chelsea Welch made a layup for Wright State (25-9) to go ahead 64-63 with 4:52 remaining in the fourth quarter. Thome, who closed with 23 points and seven rebounds, made a layup to make it 65-64 at the 4:23 mark, and then both teams went scoreless for more than three minutes.
Thome then found Dunston with a nice pass; her layup pushed Michigan up, 67-64, and the Raiders were unable to make a shot in the final minute as Michigan held on.
Katelynn Flaherty added 15 points for the Wolverines; Dunston chipped in 11 rebounds.
Welch had 17 points and eight rebounds for Wright State; Mackenzie Taylor added 15 points.
