ST. JOHN’S 65, DUQUESNE 52
NEW YORK CITY – St. John’s, which held its first two opponents in the 2018 Postseason WNIT each under 50 points, had another stellar defensive effort in Round 3, taking down Duquesne to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2018 Postseason WNIT
The Red Storm (19-14), which fell short in Round 3 of last year’s WNIT against eventual champion Michigan, will face West Virginia or James Madison in the quarterfinals.
Alisha Kebbe had 16 points for the Red Storm; Akina Wellere added 17 points as St. John’s built a 25-point lead after three quarters then cruised the rest of the way. Maya Singleton also had a strong night, scoring 11 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
For Duquesne (25-8), Chassidy Omogrosso had 14 points, with Kadri-Ann Lass adding 10 points and five rebounds. Both teams shot 42 percent from the field.
