TUSCALOOSA, AL – Meoshonti Knight hit a layup with 5 seconds to go, giving Alabama a heart-pounding victory over Georgia Tech in Round 3 of the 2018 Postseason WNIT.
The Crimson Tide (20-13) will play Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals.
Georgia Tech (20-14), which lost in three overtimes to Michigan in the 2017 WNIT final, led by as much as 24-7 in the second quarter before Alabama rallied to tie it at 29-all at the break. The game went back and forth in the fourth quarter, with Hannah Cook’s jumper with 1:59 to go putting the Tide up, 57-56.
Breanna Brown hit two free throws to put the Yellow Jackets up by one, then an offensive rebound from Shaquera Wade led to an Alabama basket by Ashley Williams to make it 59-58. Kierra Fletcher hit a free throw for Georgia Tech, and then Alabama worked the ball to Knight for the game-winner.
Williams had 15 points for Alabama, and Jordan Lewis added 11 points. For Georgia Tech, Brown and Francesca Pan had 12 points.
