VIRGINIA TECH 81, FORDHAM 50
BLACKSBURG, VA – Virginia Tech commanded the rebounding department all night and vaulted to the lead after scoring 31 points in the second quarter, easing past Fordham and into the quarterfinals of the 2018 Postseason WNIT.
Rachel Camp scored nine straight points in the last 90 seconds of the first half for Virginia Tech – she closed with 20 points, with Taylor Emery adding 15 points and six rebounds. Regan Magarity added 17 points and nine rebounds; Virginia Tech will play Alabama or Georgia Tech in the quarterfinals.
Virginia Tech (21-13) outrebounded Fordham 43-25; the Hokies shot 50 percent and held the Rams to 34 percent shooting from the field.
Fordham’s final hopes for a rally fizzled in the third quarter, when the Rams scored just 10 points overall and missed an opportunity to cut into Tech’s lead. The Hokies are now 9-0 all-time against Fordham; Tech lost in the quarterfinals of the 2017 WNIT to eventual champion Michigan.
The Rams (24-10) were paced by G’mrice Davis (12 points, nine rebounds) and Bre Cavanaugh (11 points).
