UC DAVIS 71, KANSAS STATE 69
MANHATTAN, KAN. – In a game that saw 14 lead changes and four ties, UC Davis (29-6) managed to hold off Kansas State, 71-69, and advance into the quarterfinals for the first time in program history.
UC Davis will travel to Bloomington, Indiana to take on the Hoosiers Sunday, March 25 at 2 p.m. ET.
The Aggies led for 34 of the 40 minutes throughout the night but never garnered a lead more than seven. After trailing since the 3:59 mark in the first quarter, Kansas State (18-17) called upon Kayla Goth to take the lead with 34 seconds left in the third quarter.
In the fourth frame, it was the Morgan Bertsch show. Bertsch hit a series of layups and poured in a free throw with under a minute to play to keep the Wildcats just out of reach. On the night, Bertsch had a game-high 31 points and added seven rebounds. Pele Gianotti finished with 15 points and Rachel Nagel added 12 as well.
UC Davis moves to 5-4 all-time in the Postseason WNIT, adding to its Big West record win total in the tournament. The Aggies also move to 2-2 against Kansas State with its last win coming in 1971.
Kayla Goth (28 points) dialed up her 33rd game of the season finishing in double figures for the Wildcats. Peyton Williams had 19 points of her own.
