Eastern Michigan (24-12) at Southern Miss (24-10), 8 p.m. ET – Southern Miss hosts Eastern Michigan in the opening game of the WNIT third round. The Lady Eagles are coming off a thrilling come-from-behind overtime win (77-73) against TCU in Round Two. Eastern Michigan enters tonight’s matchup after defeating Tulsa 69-59 in the second round behind a 20-point night by Janay Morton. Both teams are meeting for the first-time ever. The winner will face the Missouri-Michigan winner which slated to tip Thursday, March 26 at 7 p.m. ET.
Tamara Jones leads Southern Miss in scoring with 16.3 ppg while adding 7.0 rpg. She ranks sixth in the Conference USA in scoring and ninth in field-goal percentage. She is tied for 11th in rebounding. Jerontay Clemons is next at 12.4 ppg and 6.3 rpg. The last time the Lady Eagles played in Round Three of the WNIT was in 2008 where they fell to Michigan, 59-45.
Cha Sweeney leads Eastern Michigan in scoring with 17.3 ppg, while Morton adds 12.5 ppg. Jamaica Bucknor chips in 9.9 points and is the top rebounder at 6.2 rpg. EMU returns to the WNIT Round of 16 for the second time in school history. In 2011, the Eagles lost a 72-63 decision to Syracuse in the Carrier Dome.
